 2nd Bathroom Septic System

The Bath will be connected to the new recreation building and the future phase three boys cabin, and will have urinals, toilets, showers, and wash-sinks. This will drastically help the boys to learn and practice good hygiene.

UPDATE March 2006  The basic structure of the second cabin was built in July 2000, In 2004 because of rot and termites, we tore this original small cabin down and replaced it with a new large recreation building. This building was built by our home church, First Baptist of Raymond.

PRAISE GOD!  THIS PAST SUMMER OUR THREE VOLUNTEER TEAMS BUILT AND FINISHED THE FIRST BATH HOUSE AND NEW KITCHEN ADDITION. THE COMPLETION OF THE FIRST NEW BATH HAS GREATLY IMPROVED OUR BOY'S LIVING CONDITIONS.

Gift Needed to BUILD THE SECOND of the Baths $2,500.00 US OF COURSE WE WILL ALSO NEED A TEAM TO COMMIT TO BUILD IT.

New Boys cabin. In 2000 our HCS volunteer teams built 2 of the four Boys sleeping cabins we need at the camp.   In 2001 they built the third. In 2004 one of the two first cabins was been torn down and rebuilt bigger as a recreation center. We need to build one more in 2006.  We plan to build this new cabin about 30 feet to the right of the new recreation center. It to will have an attached bath house. This will create a  breezeway between the two cabins.    This will service  the 12 boys that will occupy the new cabin .  This will give us a capacity of 30 boys at our HCS Baptist Boys camp.

  • gift needed per cabin  with bath house; $3500.00 us dollars

  • Beds and mattresses.   10 each for the new Boys Dormitory.                                                                       $2,500.00 us dollars

Total for new Boys Cabin   $6,000.00

Additional Material that will allow HCS to DRILL much needed  Water wells

Until 2001, the boys and the workers all drank river water. As did all who live in our little community. After we drilled our Fresh water well at the HCS camp, things improved greatly. We have made this clean water available to our community.  Penny and I hope and pray to be able to buy the materials needed to drill our own water wells.  Our community, along with many others scattered along the river would benefit greatly from having their own clean water well. Many babies and children suffer and die simply from drinking river water.  The materials needed, are simple 2-2 1/2 inch galvanized pipe,  a large water pump for pumping the sludge from the well, drill bits, hoists, and cables.  The depth of the well vary from 40 meters to 80 meters .

All of this can be purchased for around $3,000.

HCS Boys camp well is Complete and working wonderful!!! Praise God! We now have clean drinking water for our Boys.  This well also supplies clean drinking water for our entire community. ( about 30 families) God is good!!

New Hope Baptist Church water well is complete. Praise God!

Irrigation System

Our garden is in, and producing vegetables. We desperately need to install an irrigation system & large holding tanks, to cut down on the time we need to run the generator. Sunshine is not a problem in equatorial Brazil, but the crops must be watered to survive during the dry season. Our plan is to run a simple piping system from the river to the garden area  provided by a diesel generator and pump.  (there is no electricity at our land)

Gift needed for the water lines, fittings, holding tanks, and irrigation nozzles Approx:   $1,000.00  dollars US.

Boat Dock/Floating Pier

A typical floating dock is made with huge trees that last for about 20 years. Then a deck and even small buildings can be erected on these floating logs. We will also need  10 new small canoes for the boys to use for fishing.

Gift needed for logs, lumber: $1,500.00 us dollars

Gift needed for Canoes:$600.00 us dollars

Plant Shade Houses

Our Gardens are in, but we still need help to make them permanent! We need to buy the plastic UV covering and shade cloth and more wood to support it.

Here in Brazil, we are either getting flooded by over 300 inches of rain in six months, or we are being scorched with 120+ degree heat. This makes growing plants  like tomatoes, peppers, squash, onions, carrots, & cucumbers out in the open all but impossible.  The rains will wash away everything that is put in cultivated soil. And if the rains do not kill the plants, the burning sun will.  The normal way to prevent this from happening is to build open shade/plastic  house structures. In the dry season the wooden roof frames are covered with shade cloth. In the rainy season the roof frames are covered with clear plastic. Also all the soil  beds need to be raised  with  8 to 12 inch wood side frames. The keeps the run off water out of the planting areas.  We now have built three 14 foot by 100 foot Plant houses with raised beds. We still need to buy more wood for the roof frames & the raised beds, the UV plastic and shade cloth, along with shovels,  wheelbarrows, & rakes, fertilizer, black top soil & cow manure

Gift needed to buy the UV plastic and shade cloth for our 3 Shade House & raised plant bed: $1250.00 dollar

Our Chicken Coop  And Live Stock Pens

We need to add live stock so we can reduce our  food costs. Chickens, Ducks, goats, pigs, and eventually cows would be wonderful. Most of these structures are just simple pens with a water supply.  We want to start with chickens. We can build a good rain proof coop with a fenced yard, and buy the chickens and feed to get started for a

gift needed   $180.00 us dollars.

If you are feeling especially generous..........
Start up costs for all animal pens; posts, wire, nails, roofing and feed shed. Plus all animals;  pigs,  chickens, ducks, turkeys,  and goats, and a maybe even a milk cow.

gift needed   $1200.00 US Dollar

Our FLOATING Volunteer Camp House  needs to be repaired.

I have been a carpenter all my life, I really enjoy building and making things. When I work a secular job in the states, I built homes and commercial buildings. I especially enjoyed making custom cabinets from Mahogany, White Oak,  Ash , Walnut and Cherry.  I brought a lot of my wood tools with me but have never had a place to use them. Here on the river every day large boats full of various exotic woods pass our camp each week. One thing I can teach well is the art of making furniture, windows, and doors. I found an old boat motor repair shop and we bought it in 2000. We replaced 3  of the older floating trunks, and it has been well used for the past 5 years. This is where we started New Hope Baptist Church, and where all the volunteer teams stay while in country. Since we only replaced 3 of the eight original logs we now need to replace the other  20+ year old logs .    The logs sell for around $300.00 each.  We also need to replace the flooring boards on the front and back porch, and plan to build a second story covered veranda.

gift needed   $2,500.00 US Dollar

Other Supplies Needed

Fence post and wire for property fence.

Our camp is 500m X 150m, we have fenced both sides We really need to complete the back.  We will need 150 fence posts. @ 4 dollar each. and 10 rolls of barbed wire @ $46 dollars a roll.

Total gift still  needed for wire and remaining posts ;$1,060.00 us dollars
